SEMINAR & WORKSHOP ON "MARITIME EDUCATION & TRAINING, & PIRACY IN INDONESIA" - REPUBLIC OF INDONESIA AND THE UNITED KINGDOM
FOCUS News - Friday, July 12,2001
A Seminar and Workshop titled "Maritime Education & Training, and Piracy in Indonesia" was held by the Directorate General of Sea Communication of the Republic of Indonesia, Met Consult, Ltd, Southampton Institute, The British Government and The Indonesian Maritime Education and Training Association taking place at the Mataram Auditorium on the first floor of the Karya Building at the Ministry of Communications in Jakarta, attended by well over 200 participants from throughout Indonesia. The event lasted four days from July 9 through July 12, 2001.

On the one-day Seminar, the event was held on the opening day on July 9, 2001 from 8.00 AM to 4.30 PM and officially opened by :
* The Director of MET Consult, Ltd, UK - Prof. Dr. Malek Pourzanjani
* HE Ambassador of the United Kingdom, Mr. Richard Gozney, CMG
* HE Minister of Communications Indonesia, DR. Budi Mulyawan Suyitno

Topics covered during the Seminar are :

* The Indonesian Government Experiences in Implementing STCW 1995 Convention Requirements presented by the Director General of Sea Communications of the Republic of Indonesia - Mr. Tjuk Sukardiman, MSi
* IMO and its Safety Convention - STCW 1995 Convention
presented by Prof. Dr. Malek Pourzanjani & Dr. MA Aziz - IMO Consultants and Founding Members of Met Consult, Ltd.
* Simulator Presentation from Transas Marine Simulator Company - England presented by Mr. John Hardcastle
* Piracy in South East Asia presented by Prof. Dr. Malek Pourzanjani, Met Consult, Ltd.
* Experiences of The Governmental Maritime Institutions in the Implementation of STCW 1995 Convention Requirements presented by Capt. Parlindungan Siahaan - President of The Indonesian Maritime Academy
* Experiences of The Private Maritime Institution in the Implementation of STCW 1995 Convention Requirements presented by Admiral Basuki Suyoto
